The badly kept secret is finally out of the bag.
Amazon, the giant online retailer, plans to open one of its distribution centers in El Paso, company and El Paso government officials announced Wednesday.
The new fulfillment center, expected to open in 2021, will create about 750 full-time jobs, starting at $15 per hour, plus health insurance and other benefits, officials said.
The planned, 625,000 square-foot El Paso facility is small compared to many of the company’s other fulfillment centers, some of which are more than 1 million square feet, and employ more than 1,000 people.
Work on the project site is already well underway in far East El Paso County. It’s located between Rojas Drive and Interstate 10, and near Eastlake Boulevard. It’s across the street from the Eastlake Marketplace shopping center, now under construction.Read More
Amazon still isn’t talking, but heavy earth-moving equipment was at work last week on the 115-acre site of a future fulfillment center off of Interstate-10 just east of El Paso’s city limits.
When completed, it will be a building like nothing El Paso has seen – with a $192 million price tag, a footprint covering 625,000 square feet, five stories reaching 100-feet high and 3.1 million square feet of inside floor space.Read More
